assist you with your transition to TWU, all first-year students are required to attend an Orientation
session. Orientation is an opportunity to meet new classmates, learn about campus resources and
understand our University’s spirit and traditions!

Set up your Pioneer Portal account at
portal.twu.edu. This is the key to unlocking
several information pages that are found
only on TWU’s Intranet (portal). The TWU
Pioneer Portal allows you to check email

TWU Google Mail is the official email system

Congratulations on your admission to Texas Woman’s
University! Welcome to the Pioneer family! Your
acceptance to TWU is an opportunity to a new education
and future. We have chosen you to join our engaging and
diverse student body.
To help make your transition to TWU as smooth as possible, TWU has an Orientation program planned just
for you! The dates for our First-Year Orientations are: June 5 - 6, June 11 - 12, June 23 - 24, July 9 - 10, July
23-24, and July 31 - August 1. Because we consider First-Year Orientation vital to student success, we have
chosen to require the attendance of students who are transferring less than 12 hours (excluding dual credit)
to TWU. Orientation provides a great opportunity to meet faculty and staff and register for fall classes.
Registration for First-Year Orientation can be found online at twu.edu/orientation.
Parents and families play an important role in promoting the personal development and academic success
of their student during the college years. For this reason, TWU has designed a Parent and Family Orientation
that takes place at the same time as your Orientation. Therefore, when you register for Orientation, please
include your guests on your registration form. You can find information about the Parent and Family
Orientation at twu.edu/orientation/parent-and-family-orientation.
Please be aware that the State of Texas mandates that new students demonstrate college-readiness in the
subject areas of reading, writing and mathematics via the TSIA2 assessment prior to enrolling in college-level
coursework. Course placement will be based on the results of the TSIA2 assessment. Some students may be
exempt from the TSIA2 assessment, visit page 14 to learn more about these exemptions. You can access your
current TSIA2status by logging into the Pioneer Portal portal.twu.edu. Students needing to take the TSIA2
assessment may take it the day before on orientation. You can submit your scores, Texas Bridge Certificate,
or other exemptions to SRP@twu.edu.
Another step in becoming a Pioneer is to attend and participate in Pioneer Camp. This begins the week prior
to classes (August 18 - 23, 2026) with all new students participating in a fun and informative introduction
to opportunities here at TWU. This is a great time to establish new friendships, learn about campus life and
become familiar with TWU and its traditions. You will receive more information about Pioneer Camp at
Orientation this summer.

FIRST-YEAR ORIENTATION
All new first-year students transferring less than 12 hours (excluding dual credits) who have been accepted to
the University for the fall 2026 semester are required to attend one of the sessions listed below. Each session
will close once capacity is reached.
During Orientation you will have the opportunity to meet your new classmates, connect with student
leaders, tour campus, learn about University resources, receive academic advising and register for classes.
You will leave Orientation understanding our University’s spirit and traditions as well as what to expect as
you begin your college experience!

Orientation Length
Orientation is a 2-day experience designed to help students
and families become acclimated to the University. Students are
required to stay overnight on campus. Students and families
should plan to arrive no later than 7:30 a.m. on Day 1 of their
scheduled Orientation session and depart around 5 p.m. on Day
2 of their session.
Orientation Fee
The First-Year Orientation fee of $200 covers Orientation costs,
and ongoing first-year programs throughout your first year. This
fee is included in your bill when you register for classes.

PARENT AND FAMILY ORIENTATION
Texas Woman’s University recognizes the importance of support from a student’s family and friends during
this time of transition and throughout your time here at TWU. We encourage you to register your parents
and family to attend Parent and Family Orientation, which runs concurrently with your Orientation.
A special Parent and Family Orientation is offered during each First-Year Orientation for students. This
program is designed to help your parent and family get off to a strong start at TWU. Parent and Family
Orientation includes a series of programs, information sessions, tours and activities to help acquaint them
with the TWU faculty, staff, students and other parents and family members in attendance.

The Parent and Family Orientation Fee of $55 (per
guest) covers Orientation costs, which include meals,
Orientation parking and program materials. Guests
wishing to stay overnight must arrange their own
accommodations at a hotel located in the Denton

a refund totaling the amount paid not including a $10

Family Weekend October 9 - 11, 2026!
Family Weekend will showcase all that TWU
has to offer as well as connect families with
campus resources. Choose to attend one day
or the whole weekend! We look forward
to hosting you on campus.

PIONEER CAMP
After you move to your residence hall,
Pioneer Camp is the next step in your
path to success. Pioneer Camp will
take place Tuesday, August 18 - Sunday,
August 23. Among the activities are a
few major events, some long-standing
traditions and exciting new opportunities
that you cannot afford to miss!
You will have a chance to:
• Attend the Pioneer Camp Kick-Off
• Participate in First-Year Convocation
• Engage with your fellow classmates at
small group gatherings
• Attend Welcome Bash
• Attend Block Party
All first-year students are
expected to attend each
day of Pioneer Camp.

Honors Scholar
Program
TWU has two honors programs
available to incoming First Year
Students. The Honors Scholar
Program is a four-year program
while the Touchstone Honors
Program is a three-year program
for students entering college
with significant credit hours
already. The programs both
include cultural experiences,
service opportunities, research
experiences, and travel abroad
programs and are open to
students of all majors. All students
accepted into the programs
receive scholarship support.

Scholarships
Scholarship recipients are
encouraged to carefully monitor
their scholarship requirements
throughout the academic year
to ensure compliance (especially
minimum enrollment and
GPA requirements).
Last-dollar scholarships, including
the Zero Tuition Guarantee and
Promises, are processed after
Census Day (12th day of classes)
each semester. Students should
make payment arrangements to
cover their balance until the award
is posted. Any amount overpaid
will be refunded after Census.

Renewable scholarships will post
automatically to student accounts
after grades are audited in May if

INFORMATION ABOUT ACADEMIC ADVISING
Academic Advising at Texas Woman’s University
helps students navigate through their academic
program by assisting with degree planning and
course selection, providing information about
campus resources, and teaching strategies to
achieve academic success. During orientation
all students will be scheduled for their first
academic advising appointment to plan their
classes. Advisors will also assist students
with changing majors and selecting a major if they
are undecided.Students will meet with an advisor
and register for courses on the second day of
orientation. Academic Advising will also host a
Major Exploration Fair for students to get familiar
with all of the academic programs at Texas Woman’s
University. Students will get to explore their academic
interests in and out of the classroom with university

& DINING
Living on campus is a great way
to connect with TWU. Students
who live on campus tend to be
more satisfied with their time at
college, get better grades and
develop relationships with faculty
and staff. Life in the residence
halls is exciting, fun, and a way
to develop into the person you
wish to be. You will meet lots of
new people – some like you and
many that come from different
backgrounds. All of these
residents have a common goal –
to be a successful Pioneer!
Applying for Housing
Apply for housing via the Housing
website at twu.edu/housing. A
$150 application fee and deposit
are required. New undergraduate
students who are under the
Residency Requirement and
submit their application will be
assigned a room by the posted
dates. Students are encouraged to
not delay in applying so they have
the best options.
The sooner you apply, the better
your chances are of getting
the assignment you want.
We recommend applying
by May 1, 2026.
Roommate Request
We welcome and encourage
mutual roommate requests.
Roommate requests must be
made early in the process. We
cannot guarantee roommate
requests made after June 1, 2026.
Priority for roommate pairs is
based on whether you and your
roommate preference apply within
the same selection period.
Residency
Requirement
All TWU full-time single
undergraduates who have not
completed 60 hours are required
to live on campus unless they
meet one of the following criteria:
• 21 years of age or older (by
August 17, 2026)
• Active duty military or veterans
of military service
• Living with parents or legal
guardians within 40 miles
of TWU
• Have legally dependent children
or are married
If you fall under the residency
requirement and wish to
commute, you must have an
approved housing exemption.

Exemption Request form in the
Housing Portal. Documentation
must be submitted to substantiate
requests. Students who live
within 40 miles of campus with a
parent or legal guardian must also
complete this form.

Living Learning Communities
(LLCs) provide opportunities
for you to meet other students
with similar goals and interests,
develop skills and enhance
the first year of your college
experience. Texas Woman’s
University offers a variety of
LLCs where first-year students
in a specified community live
together in North and South
Halls of Parliament Village.
Community events and
activities are designed to extend
classroom learning by fostering
interaction among each other
and with professors. Students in
an LLC take the same class(es),
live together and participate in
social and academic programs.
All courses offered in the LLC
are part of the University’s
core curriculum.
Students may select their
interest in an LLC on their
housing application. Spaces
are limited, so apply by May 1
to guarantee your placement.
There is no additional cost
to participate in an LLC. LLC
participants must participate in a
June orientation session.

TSIA2 ASSESSMENT
Purpose and Importance
According to the Texas Education Code for the Texas Success Initiative (TSIA2),
new students, unless exempt, must be tested to assess their readiness for
first-year level work in reading, writing, and mathematics prior to enrolling in
college-level coursework. The TSI Assessment will determine which classes you
will be required to take during your first and subsequent semesters at TWU.
Your scores will determine if you will be advised into mandatory developmental
courses before beginning college-level courses in reading, writing, and math. It
is very important that you take your time and do your best in order to be placed
accurately. TSI status does not affect admission to the university.
Know Your TSIA2 Status
Students can find their current TSIA2 status by logging into the Pioneer Portal
and clicking the link titled “Your Texas Success Initiative (TSIA2) Status” under the
heading “Other Resources” on the start page.
Exemptions and College Ready Scores
For a period of five (5) years from the date of testing, a student who performs at
or above the minimum required scores (per subject area) on one of the following
assessments will not require TSI testing. Students must submit official ACT/SAT
score reports to be considered for TSI exemption.

FINAL
TRANSCRIPTS
Texas Woman’s University requires an official
transcript from every institution attended including
the final high school transcript with graduation
date. Transcripts may be electronic or printed. Final
transcripts, including dual credit if applicable, must
be sent to Student Records.
• Electronic transcripts must be sent through a
secured, third-party service directly to TWU from
the sending institution to SRP@twu.edu. Texas
Woman’s University cannot accept an electronic
transcript from an applicant.
• Printed transcripts must be sent directly from
the institution to TWU or delivered in a sealed
envelope from the institution. Unopened
transcripts may be forwarded by mail to TWU by
the applicant in the original sealed envelope.
IMMUNIZATION
Texas law requires that all new and transfer college
students must receive a vaccination or booster
against bacterial meningitis. Students 22 years of
age or older are not required to file the exemption or
show proof of vaccination.
Students required to have the vaccination or booster
will not be able to register for classes until a valid
immunization record or a notarized Department of
State Health Services (DSHS) official Conscientious
Objection Form has been provided to the Office of
the Registrar.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
• Am I required to attend Orientation?
First-Year Orientation is required for all first-year students and students who are transferring in less
than 12 hours (excluding dual credit). Please note that for the purposes of this program, dual credit
courses do not count towards being exempt from attending First-Year Orientation.
• What do I do if I need to change my Orientation date after I have registered for Orientation?
Email orientation@twu.edu and someone will be able to assist you with your change request.
• How will I know that I am registered for Orientation?
Once you register online, you will receive a confirmation email to your TWU email account.
• What if I want to start classes at TWU in the summer?
Please contact New Student Programs so we can assess your plan to attend classes and provide
you with next steps. You must still attend a First-Year Orientation to register for courses for the fall
semester.
• When do I meet with my academic advisor?
Students will not be advised before their registered orientation session. Students will be scheduled to
meet with an academic advisor during orientation to discuss their academic program and plan classes.
• How do I pay the Orientation fee?
First-year students will pay their fee when they make their first tuition payment.
• Is there a waiver for the Orientation fee if I cannot afford it?
No, there is not a waiver. If you receive financial aid, scholarships, or other financial assistance
funds, these may be used to cover the cost. If you do not get enough or do not receive these
financial resources, the fee will be part of your out-of-pocket expenses.
• What is the cancellation policy?
For students, please notify TWU Orientation regarding your cancellation. Please note that if you wish
to simply change your date, email TWU Orientation at orientation@twu.edu.
• If I attended Orientation, but then decide not to attend TWU, is my fee refundable?
All fees, charged at the time of Orientation check-in, are all-inclusive and non-refundable.
