foreword

Dear football fans, friends, and guests of the ifm Razorbacks

from Ravensburg,

As the main sponsor of the ifm Razorbacks, it is a special pleasure for us to

welcome you to the stadium today. Whether you‘re here for the first time or

a loyal fan for years, you are the backbone of the club.

Because football is more than just a sport: It‘s passion, solidarity, and pure

emotion. Football is a sport that, like no other, stands for team spirit, determination,

and precision – values that are also lived daily at Schrezenmaier

Kältetechnik. We are all the more proud to work with a team that

impressively embodies these qualities on and off the field. Because that‘s

exactly what makes every ifm Razorbacks game a special experience.

This season, our team started with major challenges – with new faces on the

field, fresh ambition within the team, and a clear mission: Give it your all. For

the team. For the fans. For the city.

For us, the partnership with the Razorbacks is more

than just a sponsorship. It‘s a commitment to

the region, to promoting the sport, and to

supporting young talent who want to achieve

great things with passion and hard work.

Every season is a new journey—with challenges,

successes, and unforgettable moments.

We are excited to be part of this journey as

part of the Razorbacks family.

With that in mind, we wish all players a fair and

successful game, all fans an exciting day of

football, and a continued great season.

Stay loud, stay passionate—and above all:

Go Razorbacks!

facts about the opponent

It has been a perfect start for Dresden, with

the Monarchs currently unbeaten at 6–0 at the

top of the GFL North with an impressive point

ratio of 271:92. Under head coach Greg Seamon

and his coaching staff, the Dresden Monarchs

have shown consistent dominance on the field.

Particularly noteworthy is wide receiver Tyler

Hudson #7, who leads the table of the best players

in the entire GFL, followed by Justin Miller,

the Monarchs‘ quarterback #12, and running

back Tofunmi Lala #8, who are also high up in

the erima GFL statistics.

Most recently, the Dresden Monarchs demonstrated their strength with a clear 40-14

home victory against Düsseldorf and a commanding 35-7 away win in Braunschweig.

The Dresden Monarchs are the clear favorites going into the interconference game on

July 19. Their flawless record and broad range of performance quality put them in pole

position. However, the ifm Razorbacks could pose a threat to the Monarchs – especially

with the momentum of their home crowd, their strong defense, and dynamic offense

led by quarterback Broghean McGovern. A close, hard-fought encounter is just as likely

as a minor upset from Ravensburg.

interview

with ALEX Mashak & Ben Rashid

How did you both get into American football, and

what does it mean to you to be playing for the

ifm Razorbacks in your second year?

Ben: I’ve been playing American football since the

fourth grade, and I love it. Playing for the

Razorbacks means a lot to me, because the team

feels like a family thanks to all the support,

especially after my hospital stay. That was one of

the main reasons I wanted to come back for

another year. I also really value the close collaboration

with my teammates. Our training together

and shared experiences have led to many friendships

that extend far beyond sports. Especially in

difficult times, like last year when I was in the

hospital and everyone visited me—be it Frank Kienzle, Coach Gilly, or my teammates—we give each

other strength. This special community makes playing football so valuable to me, and I’m grateful

to be part of this team.

ALEX: Just like Ben, I watched football on TV as a child and got the chance to play tackle football

in fourth grade. I’ve continued playing ever since because I love the sport. My second year with

the Razorbacks was especially important to me because I was able to play with my brother. I want

to continue that as long as possible.

How would you describe the team spirit within the Razorbacks, and who on the team

motivates you the most?

Alex: The team spirit among the Razorbacks is like a family. Many key players, including Helio and

Laurits and the American returnees, are back. The motivation comes primarily from last year’s

development: We started off weakly but then finished second in the South. That spurs us, with the

team we have, to achieve even more this year.

Ben, you had 84 tackles, 26 sacks, and one interception in the 2024 regular season. Can you

possibly top that this year?

Ben: Last year, I was completely unknown to most people; many just saw me as another American

player. This season, however, I had the opportunity to demonstrate my abilities and show what I’m

truly capable of. My goal now is to give other teammates the opportunity to excel and develop their

potential. It’s a good feeling to know that we have several talented and strong players on defence

who are ready to step in if one of us isn’t playing at our best. This gives the entire team additional

security and strengthens our cohesion.

What has been your personal highlight of the season so far?

Alex: For me, the standout event of the season so far was the trip to Italy for all the imports. The

goal of this get-together was to get to know each other better and strengthen team cohesion.

Ben: My highlight was being able to play here for another season. The last three games and our

winning streak were particularly outstanding for me.

13

What goals have you set for the rest of

the season – personally and as a team?

Ben: I would say our team goal is to win the

South and get in shape at the right time so

we can carry the momentum from the regular

season into the playoffs. This year, we’re

healthy as a team, and I think that shows

we’re a team that should do very well. Our

goal is clear: to win the South. Last year, we

didn’t really have a goal; it was just about

winning as many games as possible. But

this year, from the first practice, Coach Gilly

said our goal is to win the South, make the

playoffs, and be successful there. Hopefully, we’ll play in the Erima GFL Bowl in October.

What do you do outside of football—be it professionally, academically, or in your free time?

Ben: Last year, I was a personal trainer at home.

Alex: I did that at home, too. Here, I use my free time, often going to the river, playing video

games, or working out at the gym. I studied coaching and wanted to be a coach, but now I run

my own Airbnb in North Carolina, which I manage remotely.

You’re not only good friends on the field, but you’ve known each other for a long time from

the USA. Tell us where you met and what it’s like for you to play American football together

here?

Alex: We met a while ago when I was 17. His family invited me to into their home. During that

time, we developed a special relationship and were able to play high school football together for

several years.

Ben: We’ve been like family for a long time,

even though he’s about the same age as my

older brother. We didn’t have much contact

before because we went to different colleges

and I was younger. Last year, I asked him if

he wanted to play with us if the opportunity

arose, and he immediately said yes. After

Snoop left, I talked to Coach Gilly, and a few

weeks later, he was here — it went great.

Is it true that you hadn’t played at all

before last year?

Alex: After college, I couldn’t play football

anymore, even though I had the chance.

Instead, I coached for a while. Nevertheless,

I was always open to playing with my

brother.

Where do you see yourselves in five

years—athletically and personally?

Alex: Currently, I hope to still be actively

playing football in five years. My goal is to

stay fit and continue to pursue my sporting

activities with passion.

14

Ben: Currently, I don’t have a clear idea of my future. I aspire to play football as long as possible, as

long as my physical condition allows. However, if the time comes when I have to end my playing

career, I plan to become a coach. My wish is to develop young talent and show them that they can

achieve their dream of playing football. My college coach, who played for the Vienna Vikings, was

a significant mentor to me. He showed me that there are opportunities to play football in Europe

after college if a professional career in the US doesn’t work out. I’d like to pass this perspective on to

ambitious young players in the future.

What’s your assessment of today’s game against the Dresden Monarchs? Can we beat them?

Ben: We’re convinced that we can basically beat any opponent. There’s no team that’s unbeatable.

We’ll train intensively for the coming week and show our full potential.

Alex: I can only agree. Any team is beatable. Our upcoming opponent is one of the strong teams in

the league, just like us. Even though our start to the season hasn’t been optimal with two losses,

the fact remains: In the end, it’s always two football teams facing each other on the field—special

strengths don’t play a role.

What has been the biggest challenge in your football career so far, and how did you deal with

it?

Alex: My experience mainly relates to injuries. For example, I broke my leg as a child, which continues

to affect my shinbone. Such injuries are part of sports. After an injury, it’s important to work

specifically on returning to the sport.

Ben: It was similar for me. I had shoulder surgery and had to wear a special elbow brace for a while.

I also dislocated my elbow. Most of my difficulties were physical, but regaining confidence in my

arm or shoulder is also an essential part of the recovery process.

How are your families, girlfriends, friends, and relatives dealing with being here in Europe for

such a long time?

Alex: My friends and family understand that I’m here for an extended period of time. They visit me if

they’re nearby.

Ben: I have a close relationship with my family. As I mentioned, my parents visited me here, as did

my two brothers last year. It was an excellent opportunity for them to get to know this place and

gain new experiences. My girlfriend is also very supportive about my stay here.

Thank you both for the great interview and your time. Stay with us for a long time and stay

healthy.

the ifm razorback ladies

are looking forward to their third season

The IFM Razorbacks ladies team is entering its third football season this year. With a lot

of dedication, team spirit, and passion, the players confidently won the championship

title in the Aufbauliga Süd last season, clearly prevailing against their opponents from

Bruchsal, Dachau, and Mannheim..

„We look back on a very successful season, which not only makes me happy, but also

proud, as you can clearly see the progress

our team has made. We had some

really strong catches and impressive

runs that showed what we’re capable

of. Our defense held strong and

allowed only a few points from our

opponents,” said Offensive Coordinator

Jan Nawratil.

The team, led by head coach Alfeo

Kopp, has a clear goal for the upcoming

season: to build on their success

and further develop their playing skills.

Their training is geared toward achieving

promotion to the second Bundesliga.

Nawratil particularly wants to work

on making the running routes more

routine so they can be executed with

even more precision and full energy.

While the same rules apply in the Aufbauliga

as in the higher leagues, there

are fewer players on a slightly smaller

field. While the Bundesliga 1 field a

total of eleven women per team,

the DBL 2 field nine players, and the

Aufbauliga only seven. Due to their

current small squad size, promotion

has unfortunately not been possible

this season. Therefore, the ladies will

23

likely face their familiar opponents from the Aufbauliga Süd again next

season.

The team has been part of the Razorbacks family since summer 2022. The current

squad consists of women aged 16 to late 30 who share a shared love of American

football. The coaching staff consists of Alfeo Kopp (HC), Jan Nawratil (OC), Maik Dibowski

(DC), and Marco Fluder (ST). Since their founding, the Razorback Ladies have not

only celebrated their first sporting successes, but have also contributed to raising the

profile of women’s football in the region. The team is always happy to welcome new

players and supporters who would like to become part of this dynamic community and

join them on their journey to the second Bundesliga. Whether you’re a beginner or an

experienced player – anyone who enjoys the sport and wants to be part of a motivated

team is welcome. Joining is possible at any time. The women currently train every

Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the TSB artificial turf field in Ravensburg (Football

Field Brühlstraße). Feel free to drop by or contact the team, the coaches

(coaches@ifm-razorbacks.de), or via Instagram (@ifmrazorbacks)

MOST WINS IN THE LAST 10 YEARS - IN THE GFL

GFL makes important decisions for the future

At its extraordinary general meeting on Thursday, the GFL

e. V. league association passed far-reaching and forward-looking

resolutions: Starting in the 2028 season, only twelve teams

will compete in Germany’s top division, down from the current

16, and by 2027 there will be only 14.

Back in March, the GFL clubs had already expressed their

intention to reform the ERIMA GFL and reduce it from 16 to

12 teams by 2028 at the latest. The board of the GFL league

association was then tasked with outlining the necessary

changes and submitting them to the clubs for approval. This is exactly what happened last

Thursday at an extraordinary general meeting held via video conference, with no dissenting

votes: Of the 29 clubs present, 27 approved the reduced target system, while two

abstained.

“Reducing the size of the league is no easy task, and there are many different ways to

achieve this goal in detail,” says League Association Chairman Axel Streich. “We presented

these various options to the clubs in June, and on Thursday there was an almost unanimous

decision. I am very pleased about this

and it shows once again that the GFL is

looking ahead together. This was a big

and important step on our path to making

the league even more attractive and

robust.”
